Services Part A Covers

The two two main services that Part A covers in Wyoming is Inpatient hospital care and skilled nursing facility care. These are what we are going to focus on in this article, but just know Part A does also cover behavioral and mental health, hospice care, and home health services.

Inpatient Hospital Care

This is coverage for hospital stays when you are formally admitted to the hospital. There are two conditions you will need to meet for Part A to cover your stay. First, the hospital will need to accept Medicare. If the hospital does not accept Medicare, then obviously you will have to pay. Most hospitals in Wyoming accept Medicare so this is something you most likely will not have to worry about. The second condition is you will need to be admitted to the hospital as an inpatient only after a doctor says you need inpatient care for your sickness or injury.

While you are at the hospital in Wyoming, Part A will cover semi-private hospital room, meals, most medication administered during an inpatient stay, general nursing, and equipment the hospital provides to you to use during your stay. Part A does not cover a private room or a private duty nursing in most cases.

Skilled Nursing Facilities:

These are places for individuals to stay for a short time while they get better after a hospital stay. While they are there they will receive rehabilitation serves and medical treatment to help them get better so they can go back home. This is NOT long-term care or custodial care. Medicare part A does not cover long-term care.

To qualify for a stay at a skilled nursing facility and have Part A cover can be confusing. In most cases you will need to go to a Medicare-certified skilled nursing facility, so that is easy to understand. You will also need to enter the facility within 30 days after leaving the hospital so that too is easy to understand. The complicated part is you must have been in the hospital as an inpatient for at least three days in a row.

Costs of Medicare Part A in Wyoming

Now that we know what an inpatient hospital care is and how to meet the conditions we will go over the cost you may incur if you are admitted to the hospital.

Inpatient Hospital Care:

Before Part A will start covering your hospital stay you will need to pay the deductible. The deductible for 2025 is $1,676. This is not a normal annual deductible. This deductible has what they call a benefit period. The benefit period is 60 days, which means if you go to the hospital and they release you, but you return a couple day later (within a 60 day period) you will not need to pay the deductible again. On the contrary, if you return lets say 65 days later (after the 60 day benefit period) to the hospital you will need to pay the $1,676 deductible again. There is no limit on how many times you will have to pay the deductible.

Another cost you will need to pay are copays for your inpatient hospital stays. If you are in the hospital in Wyoming and stay up to 60 days all you will need to pay is the deductible. If you stay over 60 day and up to 90 days you will have a daily copay of $419 each day in 2025. In the unlikely event you need to stay at the hospital over 90 days you are given 60 lifetime reserve days and the copay is $838 each day in 2025.

These cost may seem overwhelming, but we have a solution to help cover all these cost. The solution is a Medicare Supplement, and we are experts and getting the most competitive prices and discounts for you in Wyoming. We also have a table that breaks down all these cost, and would be happy to send you one if you want.

Skilled Nursing Facilities:

The good news here is there is no deductible and Medicare will cover the first 20 days of your stay. If you will need to stay longer than 20 days the copay per day in 2025 is $209.50. You can stay up to 100 days, but after that Medicare will pay nothing.

If you wish to prevent the experience of being hurried out of a skilled nursing facility to avoid the $209.50 copay, you might want to consider a Medicare Supplement.
